Year-round I look forward to the Salon du Livre: tents full of authors and illustrators, tables piled high with books, fascinating discussions. This year though books there was a proliferation of Manga and computer-illustrated books, all lacking the subtlety and subtext I enjoy. Discussions too failed to fire my imagination. Deeply disappointing.
