Irish and highly educated, St Colomban threw himself into travel to escape the allure of Irish girls (a Catholic Saints website tells me).  A large part of his life was spent in Burgundy. He is said to have performed miracles including curing mental illness.  He died, in Italy, on 23 November in the year 615, aged 100.   In 2011, Pope Benedict XVI made him patron saint of motorcyclists.
