Here’s a happy story, about independent bookstores.  In January, 250 US independent booksellers came together under one umbrella. That number’s now over 900.  In February they sold $50,000 worth of books. Book sales rocketed in lockdown.  By June they were making $1m, a day.  So far they’ve raised over $8M for local bookshops.  They can’t be bought out by Amazon – and they’ve just branched out into the UK.  (See postcards N° 919 & N° 901).
