Sunny late October, Hossegor. This neighbourhood of vast, detached, immaculate houses feels like a film set of 30s or 50s wealthy West Coast American suburbia: I half expect to see Orson Welles in short sleeved shirt stroll out onto a terrace, or a vintage Buick to pull into a drive.
