UK high streets are lined with charity shops. A wonderful way of recycling books and clothes and toys while raising much-needed money for a wide variety of good causes.  All are staffed by teams of volunteers.  There’s no French equivalent, bar Emmaus. In France, the government funds services the British rely on charities to supply.
