I hadn’t realised box was so prevalent until the malady struck. Now thousands of miles of box hedges have suddenly, shockingly, been reduced to ugly brown stick skeletons, victims of the Asian box tree caterpillar which is eating the hitherto famously hardy, normally toxic Buxus sempervirens.
